Delivering Grandparents Day Flowers

By Norfolk Florist on August 24, 2017 in Grandparent's Day. 0 Comments

"Perfect love sometimes does not come until the first grandchild." Welsh Proverb Marian McQuade was a West Virginia mother to 15, and grandmother to many more. She understood the value of family history and imparting wisdom to the generations which follow us - and thought there should be a formal holiday dedicated to doing so.  In 1978, Ms. McQuade saw the bill she proposed passed by the Congress, and National Grandparents Day was born. The holiday was never meant to be a big commercial event, rather she hoped that families would take advantage of the day to have reunions, arrange gatherings, and attend community events together. Her vision was that the generations could learn to appreciate each others contributions, while making sure that the personal family stories and legacy was preserved. Today, the spirit of the day still encourages rich relationships between grandparents and grandchildren. If you are looking for a meaningful way to honor your favorite people, look no further than Norfolk Florist. Our team has assembled a collection of Grandparents Day flowers, plants and gifts for every personality. Read More about Delivering Grandparents Day Flowers

Surprise Them With a Happy Just Because

By Norfolk Florist on August 8, 2017 in Flowers. 0 Comments

When Joseph J. Goodwin gave his wife a transistor radio in the 1960's. and told her the reason was "just because", he could have no way of knowing that we would still be celebrating that act 50 years later.  It seems that Joseph's family liked the idea so much, they began to give special gifts to one another for no reason. It eventually caught on in the neighborhood, and soon the community joined in. Today National Just Because Day is observed on August 27, and presents us with a unique opportunity to do something unexpected - anything we want! So prepare to turn off the alarm clock, close your organizer, and create a day full of spontaneity and fun. Norfolk Florist knows the power of "just because" giving - and we look forward to conspiring with you to make a lot of people smile!  Read More about Surprise Them With a Happy Just Because

By Norfolk Florist on July 27, 2017 in sympathy flowers. 0 Comments

At Norfolk Florist, we have many years of experience in assisting our clients in honoring all of life's events and milestones. Unfortunately, that means sometimes helping you to say farewell to a loved one or close friend. When that is the case, we are always privileged to be the ones to provide the meaningful and beautiful flowers for the memorial service. We know it can be a little overwhelming in the moment to ascertain the right flowers to send, and so wanted to provide a brief guide on purchasing funeral flowers and expressing your sympathy. Customary Funeral Flowers: Tradition has named the gladiolus bloom as "the flower of remembrance". These elongated, graceful stems (also known as sword lilies) are said to represent strength of character, faithfulness, and moral integrity. However, most people today do not rely on the gladiolus for their funeral flowers, instead choosing from a variety of other flowers which may more personally reflect the life of their loved one.  Read More about Funeral Flowers to Express Compassion
