How did you get into floral work?
Since my husband is active duty military, I was a homemaker for many years. As all of my children got older, I wanted a career for myself that I was going to enjoy. I was trying to figure out what that would be for several months. Finally it hit me when I was working in my garden---floral design! I have always loved gardens and flowers. I started doing research online and found a school that had an at-home program. Once I completed my basic floral design certificate. I applied to be a temp for Norfolk Florist. I was hired into the company and have been working ever since! Read More about Our Mom And Flower Expert Talks The Perfect Flowers For Mom
It's nearly time for our local high school seniors to graduate, and along with picking up their diploma for a good four years of sweat and tears, there will be proms, parties and award ceremonies to attend. Celebrating the achievements of our area scholars is something that we here at Norfolk Florist are happy to participate in. The flowers we send our young grads may be some of the first they receive in their lives. At such a momentous time, it pays to pick out something for them that's truly memorable. National Nurses Day falls on May 6 this year, with National Teachers following on May 8. But the week of May 6 through 12 is devoted to our appreciation for both of them, making it the perfect opportunity for you to adorn the teacher's desk and the nurse's station with flowers. These are two fields dominated by women, who we here at Norfolk Florist like to think of as "super ladies." They are our mamas, sisters, daughters, aunts, friends, neighbors and colleagues. They serve the rest of us, educating, protecting and inspiring countless people, from our youngest citizens to our oldest. They deserve our thanks all year long, but this is definitely the time to make our appreciation concrete. Read More about Treat Your Teachers And Nurses To Flowers
The Farmer’s Almanac suggests that Earth Day is a celebration of the earth, the natural beauty that surrounds us, and the importance of doing our part to keep the planet healthy. The first Earth Day celebration took place in 1970. Its initial purpose was to educate people about environmental issues, in the hope of inspiring activism. Now, it’s a yearly observance that takes place on April 22. What was once an unofficial national celebration has grown into a global one, and it is sometimes stretched out into a week-long campaign to educate people and inspire environmental activism. The Norfolk Florist crew urges you to see the beauty in nature through plants and flowers - especially in containers that you place throughout your home or workplace or give to people as Earth Day gifts. At Norfolk Florist, our professional floral designers are excited to celebrate Administrative Professionals' Day by raising desktop awareness throughout the month of April. A well-appointed work environment can do wonders for a team's morale and productivity. Thanks to an innate human condition called biophilia (the love of nature), enhancing your office environment is easy with the introduction of plants. Adding foliage to the workplace will not only look nice, but has also been shown to reduce stress, boost creativity and improve health while also cleaning the air.
